Main roads, railways and residential areas.   Cringila is the orange strip above Warrawong.

Five Islands Road can be seen running east-west between Unanderra and Port Kembla.

Two 6-lane roads meet at the northern end of Cringila.   Five Islands and Springhill: the two most important roads of South-Central Wollongong.

Lake Avenue is the 2-lane road which runs from Five Islands Road to Warrawong and Lake Heights.

The Village is serviced by the Premier Illawarra private bus company.   Their Kiama (50), Albion Park (51) and Shellharbour Square (53) bus routes run along Five Islands Road while Port Kembla (65,66) and Berkeley routes (67) will travel via Lake Ave.   All North-bound busses through Cringila travel to Wollongong.   Route 51 continues further north to Corrimal and Belambi. A one way trip to Wollongong costs around $3.

Theres a petrol station where two major roads link the village to the surrounding south-central area. Fuel, air and conveniences are available at Cringila's only fuel stop.  From here Springhill Road runs north directly to Wollongong; while Five Islands Road runs east-west from Unanderra to Port Kembla via Cringila.   The expressway to Sydney meets the latter three minutes west with an interchange near Unanderra.   East at Port Kembla the view of the islands and coastline is spectacular.   Lake Avenue and the streets which intersect it are home to almost all of Cringila's multicultural population.   Travelling south from Cringila Village Inn uphill we pass a variety shops on the north facing hillside before entering the valley where Cringila park is located and then up again to meet Flagstaff Road at the top of the second hill.   Flagstaff Road links southern Cringila with Berkeley, Lake Heights and northern Warrawong.   From Flagstaff Road turn at Lake Heights Road for the shortest drive to the Lake Illawarra foreshores.   Vehicle Repairs, Sales, Parts   Vehicle

The Village is also serviced by CityRail's Port Kembla Branch Line which extends off the South Coast line at Coniston for 6km, ending at Port Kembla.   The train station is just east of the village adjacent to Five Islands Rd.   Eastbound Trains stop at Port Kembla North and terminate at Port Kembla.   Heading west from Cringila station the line dirverts in two directions.
Northbound trains go to either Thiroul or Sydney via Wollongong.
Southbound trains used to travel to Kiama or Bomaderry (Nowra) via Unanderra. Sadly, this southbound service ended recently now passengers need to travel to Coniston or Wollongong and change platforms to join southern services.
Cringila has a fine railway station with two platforms, a waiting room, public toilets and a ticket window. I've not seen these facilities open in recent years.
Return ticket to Wollongong or Port Kembla from here is $2.60 (TAFE/UNI $3) Beware the smaller model ticket machine installed on the station accepts coins only.
Train Timetables

Although this is a passenger line, it co-exists with the large BHP steel works.   Thus much of the traffic is freight, in the form of limestone, coal & steel products.
